Cabarita Youth Service has a new Youth Worker – well he’s not that new, most of you would have met him already, Chris Hitchcock.
Chris has lived in the Tweed Area for 6 years, the last 3 right here in Cabarita with his partner and 2 boys aged 10 and 8. Both boys attend Bogangar Primary School. Chris initially joined Cabarita Youth Service earlier in the year as a volunteer keen to get further involved in his community by helping our local youth. When the position of Youth Worker became available recently it seemed a very good fit for both CYS and Chris given his extensive experience assisting youth during his previous employment.
Chris has some 15 years experience working with youth and other client groups in the key life skills areas such as training, education, employment, empowering and overcoming a wide range of barriers towards a more positive future. His experience includes working as a Youth Employment Consultant assisting ‘disadvantaged’ youth with the Youth Employment Service part of the QLD state government, a Case Manager with Centrelink and with First Sun Employment in Tweed Heads. Other roles Chris has gained experience and skills to bring to the Youth Worker position include working with both TAFE QLD and the Department of Communities and Disability Services. Chris has undertaken many courses to help assist in this role such as ATSI Cultural Awareness, Leadership, Communication, Conflict Resolution and Risk Management to name a few. Chris is currently undertaking a Certificate IV in Community Services with a ‘youth’ focus and has a current Working With Children Clearance.
Chris is very enthusiastic about becoming a familiar face and contact for our local youth whilst fostering relationships with other community organisations, businesses and individuals that can help facilitate some fun, healthy and positive activities and options for our youth.
